How To get Rid Of Nose Acne: Causes, Prevention & Treatment

Acne is a very common skin condition that occurs when your pores get clogged with debris and bacteria, causing inflammation and zit formation. It’s most common in teenagers but anyone can get pimples. The nose is the most common spot for acne formation as it has more open pores than any other place on your face and due to its position in the forefront of your face, it’s much more susceptible to catching oil and dirt, leading to acne formation.

There are two kinds of acne that can occur on your nose- acne vulgaris and acne rosacea. They both look similar but have some characteristic differences. Acne vulgaris is a kind of acne that includes pimples, blackheads, cysts, and other types of acne. It is characterized by blocked pores that manifest as pus-filled bumps, blackheads, and whiteheads. Cysts and pustules can result from deeply blocked pores. Excessive redness and extensive swelling are the hallmarks of acne rosacea. These symptoms can begin on your nose and expand to other parts of your face, including your cheeks.

Acne vulgaris is a characteristic trait of puberty and therefore teenagers are most susceptible to pimples. But anyone can get acne, especially blackheads and whiteheads which are super common amongst adults. People with oily skin, however, are at the most risk of suffering from acne. Pregnant women and women on their periods too can suffer from acne due to hormonal fluctuations. People with poor hygiene too are more susceptible to acne. Acne rosacea needs a medical checkup.

Getting pimples once in a while on the nose or anywhere on the face is normal and is not a result of any serious health concerns but developing too many acne that fill up your face surely needs a medical checkup. Also, acne should not be confused with other kinds of bumps that might be a sign of allergy or other health problems. Frequent acne outbreaks could also indicate poor hygiene and hormonal imbalance.

Nose acne can occur due to many reasons-

  • Oily skin
  • Combination skin which is oily at the nose region
  • Not regularly cleaning and hydrating your face
  • Using bad quality skincare or makeup products
  • Not removing makeup before going to the bed
  • Hormonal imbalance/ fluctuation
  • Puberty
  • Sleeping on unwashed pillow covers/ bedsheets
  • Using dirty towels on your face
  • Digestive problems

Here are a few tips to help you avoid having acne around nose crease:

  • Clean and moisturize your face regularly. A simple but effective skincare routine to prevent nose acne could be: Cleansing your face with Deconstruct’s Hydrating Face Wash followed by a hydrating serum and a hydrating moisturizer. More advanced skincare routines to suit specific skin types are even a better choice.
  • Never wear makeup to bed.
  • Always use good quality skincare and makeup products.
  • Use a separate towel for your face.
  • Change and clean your bed sheets and pillow covers often.
  • Don’t pick on your skin or pre-existing pimples.
  • Wash your face whenever you feel the nose tip is oily and never skip applying moisturizer after washing your face.

OTC Treatments For Nose Acne

Acne rosacea needs a medical prescription but the commonly occurring not inflammatory acne vulgaris (pimples, blackheads and whiteheads) can be treated with OTC treatments and a proper skincare routine.

  • AHAs and BHAs: Salicylic acid is the most effective over-the-counter treatment for nose acne because it breaks down and prevents acne by clearing excess dead skin cells surrounding hair follicles. It’s the most common type of beta-hydroxy acid exfoliant (BHAs) and other types of BHAs might work as well but not as effectively as Salicylic acid. Glycolic acid and other alpha hydroxy acid exfoliants (AHAs) can unclog pores as well and help with acne. You can try Deconstruct Exfoliating Serum with 18% AHA + 2% BHA (Salicylic Acid) as this unique exfoliating serum with a potent combination of 18% AHA and 2% BHA can help tackle multiple skin concerns. The AHA exfoliates the dead skin cells away leaving behind a bright complexion, while the BHA unclogs the pores and purifies the skin deeply. If you have sensitive skin, then Deconstruct Beginner’s exfoliating serum with 5% Lactic Acid + 0.5% Probiotics is an excellent choice! It is a gentle exfoliating serum that has a mild formula, making it perfect for beginners. Probiotics in combination with Lactic Acid can help relieve a wide range of skin problems and exfoliate the skin effectively. It also contains 1% Hyaluronic Acid which keeps the skin hydrated while exfoliation.
  • Benzoyl Peroxide is another popular option.
  • Retinoids may also aid in the unclogging of blocked pores.

Acne is a prevalent skin disorder that affects many people. Acne may occur practically everywhere on the body, but the nose is highly susceptible. Nose acne in the form of pimples, blackheads and whiteheads are simple to treat with at-home, over-the-counter, and prescription treatments. It is possible to avoid future breakouts by maintaining good facial hygiene.
